Requirements

Admission Requirements

Academic Background

A completed secondary or higher education qualification from a recognized institution. Prior theological studies are an advantage but not required.

Academic Transcripts

Official transcripts from all previous educational institutions attended, demonstrating satisfactory academic performance.

Statement of Purpose

A personal statement (400–600 words) describing your ministry background, motivation, and how the program aligns with your pastoral calling.

Identification

A copy of a valid government-issued photo ID. International applicants may need to provide proof of English proficiency.

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters from pastoral, academic, or professional references who can attest to your character and capacity for ministerial formation.

Technology Access

A reliable internet connection and a modern device. All coursework is delivered through our online learning management system.

No. American University Saint Joseph does not charge an application fee. We are committed to removing barriers to access for qualified candidates.

Yes. All programs are delivered entirely online through our learning management system. You can complete your formation from anywhere without relocating or interrupting your ministry.

Programs are offered in English and Portuguese. Please contact our admissions office to confirm availability in your preferred language.

Most applications receive an initial response within 3–5 business days. Complete applications with all required documents are typically reviewed within 2 weeks.

Prior theological studies are an advantage but not a strict requirement. We evaluate each applicant holistically — considering your ministry experience, pastoral calling, and motivation alongside academic preparation.
